Primary health care as a continuous priority (and a pending issue) of health policy in Greece

K. Souliotis
Laboratory of Health Policies, Technologies and Behaviors Assessment, University of Peloponnese, Corinth, Greece

This paper attempts to shed light on the contradiction between the failure of the state to integrate primary health care in general health services in Greece and the consistent highlighting of this goal as a health policy priority. Furthermore, it puts forward concrete proposals and prerequisites for the organization and operation of a fair, effective, efficient and people-centered primary health care system, with references to the rich work of Dimitris Trichopoulos.

Key words: Health policy, Interest groups, Political cost, Primary health care, Reform.
