Lipoproteins and atherosclerosis

The lipoproteins constitute valuable clinical diagnostic tools. This review will highlight the key clinical diagnostic aspects of the lipoprotein system at the phenotypic level, with the main focus on the following topics: (a) Structure and metabolism of lipoproteins. (b) Fluctuations in lipoprotein levels. (c) Lipoprotein (a). (d) Therapeutic treatment of hypercholesterolemias. The overall presentation aims to identify the most useful laboratory parameters that may help us evaluate the individual risk factor for the development of cardiological disease with greater accuracy.
