The Greek medical presence in Russia dates from the 15th century. Numerous Greek physicians settle in Russia and were appointed in high offices. Among the most distinguished were the physicians of the Schiadas family from Cephallonia. Athanassios was appointed counsellor to Czar Peter the Great, his son George was appointed personal physician to Empress Elizabeth and his nephew Michael was a professor at Moscow University. In this article the information available on their life and work is presented.
